What's Up

Beer Festival | The Great Ontario Smoke-In | whatsnext.ca | Music

tankhouse aleSpring Festival Of Small Breweries

Friday May 26, 2006, 5 to 10 p.m.

From a lager made with Maple sap instead of water (Maple Bush Lager) to Double Oatmeal Treacle Stout to a beer called Hop Addict, our Second Annual Spring Festival will be featuring some of the more imaginative work from our local breweries. Thirty-five creative creations from over two dozen breweries will be available for sampling. As usual, the who's who of the Southern Ontario brewing scene will be rubbing elbows, and the foam off of their upper lips on this fine Friday.

Admission is free, samples will be sold for $1 each (all taxes inc.)

smokingThe Great Ontario Smoke-In

Wednesday May 31, until midnight

The triumph of righteousness over reason will take effect just after midnight on May 31. That is when the legislation authored by our own MPP, George ("been there, done that") Smitherman, outlaws our smoking room.

To commemorate the passing of the room that has served both the smoking and the smokeless well for two years, we are throwing a wake. You don't even have to enter the room to participate, just come down anytime that Wednesday and pay your respects. If you bring a friend we will buy them a meal.*

Everyone present at midnight will receive a door prize.

*To take advantage of this offer, pass along condolences to your server when you place your order and they will give you a second entrée of equal or lesser value.

whats nextwhatsnext.ca

Toronto's independent cultural nexus has arrived in the form of our new website whatsnext.ca.* This is, perhaps, the coolest thing we have done since kicking "the big two" off tap seventeen years ago (or at least since installing the new washrooms).

The backbone of the new site is a multi-media interactive radio station which broadcasts all of the great indie music at C'est What 24/7. Our favourite five songs for the month, prerecorded playlists, live performances and DJs (with interactive chat), and podcasts can all be found at this address.

A multi-threaded discussion forum for local culture from beer to music is front and centre. Also featured is our programming and events calendar, advance ticketing, artist index and profiles.

Please check it out, your feedback is appreciated.

*A high-speed internet connection is required.
